Description:

During the first 500 years of the Common Era, the land now known as Pinson Mounds State Archaeological Park was once settled by an Indian tribe and visitors can still see their 15 large mounds built for ceremonies and burials. The on-site museum contains ancient artifacts, a discovery room for children, a research library and a small theater. Six miles of nature trails cover the park's 1,310 acres of land, affording views of the mounds and the Forked Deer River, which borders the southern edge of the park. A 13 mile drive south of Jackson, the park is near the camper-friendly Chickasaw State Park.
